Interesting article. One thing I agree with is the importance of pre- (and actually post-) marital counseling. Actually, one of the best relationship books I've ever read (admittedly, I haven't read very many) was John Gottman's The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. It's based on quite a bit of actual research, which is what I think makes it valuable.
